The Lowsonford, Rowington and District Horticultural Association is a not for profit organisation that aims to encourage local people to grow flowers and produce for enjoyment and consumption. Each year the Association holds a spring Daffodil Show and a summer Flower Show.
Spring Flower Show and Social Evening (formerly the Daffodil Show)
The Spring Flower Show takes place in March and usually alternates between Rowington Village Hall and Lowsonford Village Hall. It is a social occasion that provides an opportunity for local residents to exhibit their home grown daffodils and other spring flowers. The next Spring Flower Show will take place in Rowington Village Hall on Friday 20 March 2009.
Village Show (formerly the Annual Flower Show)
The Village Show, incorporating the annual Flower Show, is a far larger event and has numerous classes for home grown produce and flowers as well as floral art, culinary, handicrafts, art and children's classes. The show usually takes place on the first Saturday in August and alternates between Rowington and Lowsonford. In 2009 the Show is due to take place in Lowsonford.
History
The Lowsonford Flower Show began in 1946 to encourage local residents to grow better vegetables and flowers and to improve other home produce such as cakes and preserves. During the Second World War home grown vegetables had been a vital part of the nation's diet and, when rationing ended in the 1950's, people continued to be interested in producing quality produce in their gardens and allotments. The Lowsonford Flower Show soon grew to include Rowington and other nearby areas and more classes were introduced to cover a wide range of interests. In 2006 the Flower Show celebrated its diamond anniversary.

Details of the 2009 show, which will take place in Lowsonford, will appear here early next year.
New exhibitors are always welcome to exhibit at the flower show - please have a go next year even if you haven't entered before. In fact, many classes are won by first time entrants. To help, tips outlining what the judges are looking for can be found on the Tips page. Also, to give an idea of presentation, pictures of previous year's exhibits are available to view in the Photo Gallery. All winners receive a prize sticker on their entry card and there is prize money for the children's classes.
