Juniors' Spectacular Season Ends
Juniors' Spectacular Season Ends
A win in their last match against Stratford-upon-Avon would place the Under 13 team joint top with Bretforton, the only team to have beaten them all season. A large crowd turned out to watch them for the last time last night, on an unusually pleasant and sunny evening. But the bubble was about to burst. Even though Stratford were mid-table they had only played four matches so we had no idea what to expect. What we got was some superb bowling, tight fielding and a couple of big-hitting batsman.
Rowington batted first and found it hard to stay above 200. After Dale and Ross had more than doubled the score in their final four overs, Rowington finished 243 for 8. Rowington, to their credit, also fielded tightly and, with Tom taking two wickets in his second over, Stratford were only on 213 after 8 overs. But they'd saved their best till last and the runs quickly mounted up. With one over to go, opening bowler Dale Glover came back on with the intention of getting six wickets. He bowled the first ball and got a run out. He did the same with the third. And the last! But it wasn't enough and, although the Rowington team will probably finish joint second with Wellesbourne now*, we all think they're AMAZING!!!
We would like to thank all the Under 13s for such an exciting and entertaining season. Roll on next April!
After the match the boys were sprayed with a mixture of Champagne and fizzy water to celebrate their wonderful achievement.

*Now confirmed - Rowington finish as runners up.
