Dads v Lads and Presentation Night
All too soon it was the end of the season for the younger cricketers who finished off the year with two matches against their parents. The children won both matches convincingly and, after Tony had cooked a wonderful barbeque, they all collected their medals and trophies.
This years winners were:
Coaches' Awards for Improvement (U7s) - Robbie and Ben
Most Improved Bowler (U9s) - Ceris
Most Improved Batsman (U9s) - Nathan
Player of the Year (U11s) - Joe
Most Improved Player (U11s) - Phoebe
Player of the year (U13s) - Piers
Most Improved Player (U13s) - Perry
Best wicket Keeper/Batsman (U13s) - Sam
Select XI v Under 14s
Select XI 98 for 9, Under 14s 99 for 2
This year the Select XI decided they would take this annual match very seriously and play their best, having being somewhat embarrassed last year. Sadly their wickets just kept on tumbling and it was down to the last two batsman, John and Graham, to try and restore some dignity to the team. They managed 98 for 9 after 20 overs.
The Under 14s replied with such a phenomenal display of cricket that most of them were forced to retire just to give more players a chance at batting. They quickly reached 99 however and were presented with the trophy to keep for at least another year.
Under 14s - 2nd leg play-off
Rowington 291 for 3, Fladbury 234 for 8
Rowington looked much more comfortable playing on their home turf as they fought to overturn last week's tie with Fladbury. Superb batting from Richardson and Ostler saw them reach an impressive 231 for 0 after 4 overs. Despite losing a wicket each, Wood and Hill nudged the score up to 246 for 2. Glover and the younger Ostler saw off Fladbury's impressive bowlers without losing a wicket and Skillings hit a massive 28 and Webster 5 to bring the final score to 291 for 3.
Rowington looked at their very best in the field with wickets from Glover (2), Webster, Richardson and Ostler and a total of three run-outs thanks again to quality wicket-keeping from Hill.
So the Under 14s finish 3rd out of 17 teams from all over Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. Another fantastic season!
