Rowington Action Group (RAG) was set up in 2004 by a number of local residents with young families with the aim of raising funds to acquire new modern play equipment for the playing field. Initially, the group took soundings from the local community (including the children) on their preferred play equipment and, throughout the project, worked closely with Rowington Parish Council, the owner of the site with overall responsibility for the playing field.
Following an appeal for donations and a series of fund raising events, including a car boot sale at Rowington Village Hall and a contribution from the 2005 St George's Day celebrations held at Rowington Club, the group was in a position to donate funds to the Parish Council to enable new play equipment to be purchased. For its part, the Parish Council obtained a Rural Initiatives Grant to add to the funds raised by RAG.

Having regard to the soundings taken, RAG chose the new play equipment and arranged for it to be installed on the playing field in the summer of 2005.
RAG continues to work with Rowington Parish Council to raise funds for the improvement of the playing field facilities and, following a suggestion by a Rowington resident, the group is planning to install a picnic table and bench on the playing field in the near future.
