Royal British Legion - Rowington & Lapworth Branch
The Royal British Legion
The Royal British Legion was founded in 1921 as a voice for the ex-Service community and provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces and their dependents. It is one of the UK's largest membership organisations, with over 450,000 members (including the Women's Section). Anyone can be a member, ex-Service or not.

The Royal British Legion Women's Section has been providing care and support to the ex-Service community for over 85 years and is made up of a countrywide network of 1,200 branches with a membership of 62,000 women. The Women’s Section is dedicated to caring for the ex-Service community and their dependents. This is mainly achieved by operating a number of Welfare Schemes including Welfare breaks and much more, all of which are entirely supported by voluntary contributions.

The Rowington and Lapworth Branch
The branch was formed in Rowington in 1926 and subsequently changed its name to the Rowington and Lapworth Branch so as to include members who lived in the neighbouring village of Lapworth.

The branch headquarters are at Rowington Club in Rowington Green. No regular meetings are held but a number of social events are arranged throughout the year, often involving other local branches of the Legion.

Members are particularly concerned to maintain the spirit of November Remembrance and actively support the annual Poppy Appeal. On Remembrance Sundays the members parade and attend, in alternate years, the church services at St. Laurence, Rowington or St. Mary’s, Lapworth.

There are currently 31 members. Although most of these have served in HM Forces, there are a number of others who belong because they support the aims of the Legion. New members are welcome – if you would like to join the Rowington and Lapworth Branch and share in its activities, please contact the Secretary, Wilf Harrison, on 01926 842641.

The Women's Section
The Women's Section of the Rowington and Lapworth branch meets at various times during the year, arranges outings, coffee mornings and a Bingo night and generally raises money for the various Royal British Legion Welfare Schemes.

The Women's Section is only a small group but the members enjoy each others company. Membership is open to any woman (over 16 years) who wishes to support the organisation and agrees to abide by its bye-laws. If you are interested in joining, please click
